Curriculum & Schedule

Academic Program
Our academic program focuses on each individual student and his or her specific learning needs. We use the Orton-Gillingham language-based teaching approach which is a highly effective method of instruction. This approach is diagnostic and prescriptive, but it also taps into the cognitive strengths that these children possess. Campers learn about the structure of the English language in a systematic and analytical methodology that is flexible to each child. Our campers have 4 hours of academics each day and every class is prepared with their individual skills and challenges in mind.

We offer:
• 1:1 Orton-Gillingham language tutorial
• 1:7 Keyboarding and written expression that includes applications such as word processing, powerpoint, and garage band
• An hour of supervised oral reading at the camper’s independent reading level
• Daily study hall for each camper to work on strengthening the skills learned in tutoring
• Math enrichment and math remediation for those interested

Activities Program
Our daily activities focus on exposing students to a variety of experiences such as creative art projects, swimming, wood shop, waterskiing, and outdoor education. Our community is rich with artisans, and we visit local studios and enjoy demonstrations as well as hands on instruction by professional artists. Water is an integral part of our program. We take the campers to nearby lakes for water skiing each weekend and we also enjoy rafting and tubing in local waterways. Some other activities include hiking, primitive camping, trail blazing, and ropes courses. Our activities’ staff is trained and knowledgeable about the fields they teach and supervise, with an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of dyslexic individuals.
